About this Monument
An ivory-white marble mausoleum commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1631 for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Considered the jewel of Muslim art in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it combines Persian, Islamic, and Indian architectural styles.
